I was asked to bring in some decorative flower patterns for the crochet class, so I chose these 3 to show how easy it is to crochet varying types.
I worked these all in Giza Cotton 4ply on a 3.5 mm hook.
I chose cotton as it shows the stitch definition clearer in class but these patterns can be worked in any yarn.
Simple 6 Petalled flower
Round 1:12 dc
Round 2: ch 1, *3tc in next st, sl st in next st* repeat to end.
Fasten off & weave in ends
This one is worked in rows, and then rolled to make the flower.
Foundation chain 51.
Row 1: Dc in 2nd ch from hook. 2 ch, skip next ch, dc in next chain across. *dc, 2 ch, skip ch, dc in next chain across* Repeat * * to end
- Turn, chain 1. In 2-ch space: 3 htr, ch 1, sl st.
- In each of the following two 2-ch spaces: sl st, ch 1, 3 htr, ch 1, sl st.
- *In next 2-ch space: sl st, ch 1, 4 htr, ch 1, sl st,
- In following 2-ch space: sl st, ch 1, 5 htr, ch 1, sl st,*
- Repeat * * until end of row.
Work will twist due to number of stitches being added in Row 2
To make rose:
Starting with the 3 htr end roll up into flower shape. Use a yarn needle to stitch flower together on the back and weave in any loose ends.
In this pattern you need to work double crochet around the treble crochet posts of the previous round.
To do this you bring the hook under the post of the treble crochet, yarn over, and draw a loop to the side of the post closest to you. Bring the hook over the treble crochet post post, yarn over, and draw the yarn through the 2 loops on your hook.
Magic ring: work the first round into the ring.
Round 1: Ch 5 (counts as htr, ch 2), *htr, ch 2* in ring 5 more times, sl st in 3rd ch of beginning ch to join 6 2 chain spaces.
To make the first layer of “petals,” work the stitches of round 2 into the ch-2 spaces.
Round 2: Sl st, htr, 2 tr, htr, sl st in each ch-2 sp, sl st in first sl st to join 6 petals.
Turn to work on the back side of the flower for the next step – this
can be fiddly as you are working round the treble crochet posts from round 1.
Ch 1 to prepare.
You can fasten off the yarn and change colour. If so, join the new colour around any tc post from round 1.
Round 3: Ch 1, dc around first tr from round 1, ch 5, *dc around next tr from round 1, ch 5.* Repeat * * 5 times, sl st in first dc to join 6 ch-6 loops.
To make the second layer of petals, you’ll work into the ch-5 loops created in Round 3 on the back of the flower. Work round 4 with the right side of the flower facing you.
Round 4: Sl st, htc, 5 tc, htc, sl st in each ch-5 sp , sl st in first sl st to join-6 petals.
Fasten off and weave in ends.
