Srebrenica Rose

It was the 25th anniversary of the start of the Srebrenica Massacre last weekend and a friend wanted to know how to make a Srebrenica Rose.

We couldn’t find a pattern, so this is my attempt:

  • Requires:
    • 4mm hook
    • oddments DK dark green
    • 10 gms DK white yarn.
  • Abbreviations
    • ch – chain
    • ch-sp – chain space
    • dc – double crochet
    • tr – treble crochet
    • slst – slip stitch

Each round is joined with a slip stitch

  1. Starting with green yarn,
    • work 22 tr into a magic circle, join and finish.
  2. Change to white yarn,
    • Tr, 2 ch into alternate stitches (11x 2 chain loops)
  3. 5 tr into each 2 ch-sp, repeat to end (11 petals)
  4. back post dc into tr of round 2, then 3 ch to next, repeat to end (11 loops behind petals)
  5. dc into dc of previous round, then 6 tr into 3 ch-sp (11 petals)
  6. back post dc into dc of round 5, then 4 ch to next, repeat to end (11 loops behind petals)
  7. dc into dc of previous round, then 7 tr into 4 ch-sp (11 petals)
  8. back post dc into dc of round 7, then 5 ch to next, repeat to end (11 loops behind petals)
  9. dc into dc of previous round, then 8 tr into 5 ch-sp (11 petals), finish and weave in ends
