I’m not suddenly branching out into lifestyle advice, I’ve finally got round to writing up my alterations to the Control Issues Granny Square
It’s my favourite granny square pattern but it’s written to be worked in aran weight yarn and on a 5mm hook, whereas I tend to use DK and 4mm. This has meant that I’ve had to add 2 rows of double crochet and I think it loses something with that.
I haven’t done the lace further out variation because I’ve haven’t done any recently. Will update if when I do

Special stitches
Tr3tog—(Yo, insert hook in next st, yo, pull loop through st, yo, pull through 2 loops) 3 times, yo, pull through all 4 loops on the hook, ch 1 to lock st.
Tr4tog—(Yo, insert hook in next st, yo, pull loop through st, yo, pull through 2 loops) 4 times, yo, pull through all 4 loops on the hook, ch 1 to lock st.

- Ch 4, sl st to make a ring
- Ch 1, 8 dc in the ring, sl st to join (8 dc)
- Ch 3 (as beginning tr), ch 2,* tr in next st, ch 2,* repeat to end, sl st to top of beg ch-3. (8 tr, 8 ch-2 sps)
- Ch 1, 4 dc in each ch-2 sp around the circle, sl st to join. (32 dc)
- Ch 2, tr3tog, ch 4, *tr4tog, ch 4,* repeat from * to *to end, sl st to top of the first treble triangle. (8 dc4tog, 8 ch-4 sps)
- Ch 1, 6 dc in each ch-4 sp around the circle, sl st to beg dc. (48dc)
- *dc, ch 3, sk st,* repeat from * to * to end, sl st to first dc. (24 ch-3 sps)
- Ch 3, 2 tr, in first ch-3 sp, then 3tr in each of remaining ch-3 sp, sl st to beg sc. (72 tr)
- Ch 4 (counts as dtr), *tr in next 2 sts, her in next 3 sts, dc in next 5 sts, her in next 3 sts, tr in next 2 sts, dtr in next st, (2 dtr, ch 2, 2 dtr) in next st,** dtr in next st,* repeat from * to * 3 more times ending at ** the final time, sl st to top of beg ch-4. (24 dtr, 4 ch-2 sps, 16 tr, 24 htr, 20 dc)
- dc into every st, in corner spaces 2dc, ch, 2dc
For Solid centre
Replace Row 3: Ch 3 (as beginning tr), tr in same st, 2tr in each of remaining sts, csl st to top of beg ch-3. (16 tr)
Replace Row 4: Ch 1, 2 dc in each st, sl st to join. (32 dc)
