I’m not suddenly branching out into lifestyle advice, I’ve finally got round to writing up my alterations to the Control Issues Granny Square It’s my favourite granny square pattern but it’s written to be worked in aran weight yarn and on a 5mm hook, whereas I tend to use DK and 4mm. This has meant that I’ve had to add 2 rows of double crochet and I think it loses something with that.

These squares have been made in Stylecraft Special DK, the larger 30 cm /12 inch in Spice, the smaller 15 cm / 6 inch in Boysenberry. (It looks pinker in real life) I’ve done patterns for 2 different ways to do a popcorn stitch and for 2 different sizes.

Basic Granny Square
This is the easiest square I know. The squares can be made as small or as large as you want, for example I used this as the start of a cotton bag.
