This is the second pattern used in the amigurumi class and was used to introduce the bobble stitch.
Sheep is about 12 cm / 5 inches tall when sat.
I wouldn’t recommend using black for the fleece during a first attempt, I only did because I had run out of white.
Do not join each round work as a spiral.
Materials:
- 2 colours DK yarn: 1 for skin (A), the other for fleece (B) This pattern uses very little yarn, less than 50 gms.
- 3 mm hook
- filling
- tapestry needle
Abbreviations:
- ch = chain
- dc = double crochet
- dc2tog = decrease double crochet. Going into first stitch pull yarn through, go into next stitch, pull yarn through, (3 loops on hook) yarn round hook, pull through all 3 loops
- bobble = *yarn round hook, go into stitch, pull yarn through, yarn over, pull through 2 loops* repeat working through same stitch until there are 6 loops on hook, yarn round, pull through all 6 loops.
Head:
- Colour A: Magic Ring, ch 1, dc 8 in ring, do not join,
- 2dc in each stitch around (16 sts)
- *2dc in first stitch, dc in next* repeat (24 sts)
- dc in each stitch (24 sts)
- dc in each stitch (24 sts)
- dc in each stitch (24 sts)
- dc in each stitch (24 sts)
- dc in each stitch (24 sts)
- Change to Colour B: *dc, bobble in next stitch* repeat
- *dc2tog, dc in next* repeat (16 sts)
- *dc, bobble in next stitch* repeat (16 sts)
- dc *dc2tog, dc in next* repeat (11 sts)
- dc *dc, bobble in next stitch* (11 sts)
- dc2tog, *dc, dc2tog in next* repeat (7 sts)
- Fasten off, stuff, pull tail through 4 stitches and pull tight.
Ears:
- Colour A: Chain 4, dc in second chain from end, dc in next 2. Now working on other side of chain, dc in next 3, do not join (6 sts)
- dc in each stitch around (6 sts)
- dc in each stitch around (6 sts)
- dc in each stitch around (6 sts)
- Fasten off.
Body:
- Colour B: Magic ring, chain 1, 8 dc in ring, do not join
- 2dc in each stitch around (16 sts)
- *2dc in first stitch, dc in next* repeat (24 sts)
- *dc, bobble in next stitch* (24 sts)
- dc in each stitch (24 sts)
- *dc, bobble in next stitch* (24 sts)
- dc in each stitch (24 sts)
- *dc, bobble in next stitch* (24 sts)
- *dc2tog, dc in next* repeat (16 sts)
- *dc, bobble in next stitch* (16 sts)
- dc2tog to end repeat (8 sts)
- *dc, bobble in next stitch* (8 sts)
- dc2tog to end (4 sts)
- Fasten off, stuff, pull tail through 4 stitches and pull tight.
Feet (make 4):
- Colour A: Magic Ring, chain 1, 10 dc in ring, do not join
- In back loops only, dc in each stitch around (10 sts)
- Working in both loops, dc in each stitch around (10 sts)
- Working in both loops, dc in each stitch around (10 sts)
- *dc2tog, dc in next 3 stitches* repeat (8 sts)
- *dc2tog, dc in next 2* repeat (6 sts)
- Fasten off.
Assembly
- Sew ears to head where at edge of fleece.
- Sew head to body.
- Stuff legs and sew to body
- Embroider eyes, 2 or 3 rows below fleece line.
Time taken: took an evening but was slowed down due to working with dark coloured yarn. A white sheep would probably be a bit quicker
