    #MittenMission

Last year I contributed to Masato Beanies #Scarfathon. The appeal collected 500 hand-made scarfs for the homeless. The project continues this year and has a new addition #MittenMission.

    Twiddle muff

Twiddle muffs are some times used to help people with dementia, Alzheimer’s disease, autism or learning difficulties. The textures & embellishments give them something to do with their hands, distracting from picking at their skin or pulling at medical equipment and bandages. They are constructed as a muff rather than a blanket as they can be slipped onto an arm with less chance of being dropped.

    Air drying clay

Some of my classes at the residential homes take a bit more preparation than others, especially if I am trying out a new material. One of the residents had said in a previous class that she had always wanted to work with clay. Now I’ve done some things with the standard air drying clay but it can be quite messy and I only have an hour session for each class.

    Child’s cat hat & wristwarmers

After making the sparkly cat hat, wristwarmer & cowl set I decided to make  smaller version for my daughter to use up the last bits of yarn. They are somewhere in her bedroom which is why there is no picture.

    Simple Crochet Christmas Bauble

This bauble pattern can be adapted in a number of ways, plain, sparkly, striped and with a variety of adornments. I’ve worked this in a DK acrylic (as that’s what I had to hand) but it could be made with most yarns, each giving a different effect.

    Christmas Stocking

I’ve done these in three sizes; standard, mini & large. And they all work on the same principle. They re good for bunting as well as for putting gifts in

    Crocheted Snowflake 1

I actually made a pile of these a few years ago to use up some 4ply to make bunting but no matter how I strung them I wasn’t happy. So this year I plan to use them to decorate my Christmas Cards. The larger of the two in the image was worked in DK and measures 13 cm (5 inches) in diameter, the smaller is in 4 ply and is 8 cm (3 inches) across.

    Milk Cafe Crafting

A friend has been telling me for weeks about how much she’s been enjoying the recent craft classes at the Milk Cafe in Glasgow. It’s a not just a fabulously friendly little cafe with tasty home-cooked food, it’s also a great social enterprise providing a venue for a variety of projects. They’ve been running craft taster sessions, which obviously is my sort of thing, and this week I was finally able to attend.
