Christmas Stocking

I’ve done these in three sizes; standard, mini & large. And they all work on the same principle. They re good for bunting as well as for putting gifts in

The stockings are worked in dc as if they were amigurumi, as in you don’t complete each round with a slip stitch but continue in a spiral.

Requires

  • DK yarn or cotton in colours A & B
  • 3 mm hook

Abbreviations

  • slst= slip stitch
  • dc = double crochet

Standard

Measures 18 cm (7 inches) toe to loop

Pattern

1. Starting with Colour A work a magic ring, dc 6.

2. 2 dc in every stitch (12 sts)

3. *2 dc in first stitch, dc in next* repeat 5 times (18 sts)

4. *2 dc in first stitch, dc in next 2 dc* repeat 5 times (24 sts)

5. *2 dc in first stitch, dc in next 3 dc* repeat 5 times (30 sts)

6 – 16. dc in every dc (30 sts)

17. DO NOT FINISH COLOUR A, leave thread attached. Change to Colour B, dc into the next 15 sts, turn

18 – 22. Dc into each dc (15 sts)

23. Fold rectangle in half and dc the back heel together. (8 sts)

24. Go back to Colour A, pick up 15 sts across top of heel and continue round sock (30 sts)

25 – 39. Dc into every dc. Finish above heel seam

40. Change back to Colour B. dc in each dc (30 sts)

41. dc in each dc. (30 sts).

Chain 15 and slst into base of chain (to form loop). Finish. Weave in ends.

Mini

Measures 9 cm (3.5 inches) toe to loop

Pattern

1. Starting with Colour A work a magic ring, dc 6.

2. 2 dc in every stitch (12 sts)

3 – 8. dc in every dc (12 sts)

9. DO NOT FINISH COLOUR A, leave thread attached. Change to Colour B, dc into the next 6 sts, turn

10 – 12. Dc into each dc (6 sts)

13. Fold rectangle in half and dc the back heel together. (3 sts)

14. Go back to Colour A, pick up 6 sts across top of heel and continue round sock (12 sts)

15 – 23. Dc into every dc. Finish above heel seam

24. Change back to Colour B. dc in each dc (12 sts)

25. dc in each dc. (12 sts).

Chain 6 and slst into base of chain (to form loop). Finish. Weave in ends.

Large

Measures 33 cm (13.5 inches) toe to loop

Pattern

1. Starting with Colour A work a magic ring, dc 6.

2. 2 dc in every stitch (12 sts)

3. *2 dc in first stitch, dc in next* repeat 5 times (18 sts)

4. *2 dc in first stitch, dc in next 2 dc* repeat 5 times (24 sts)

5. *2 dc in first stitch, dc in next 3 dc* repeat 5 times (30 sts)

6.  *2 dc in first stitch, dc in next 4 dc* repeat 5 times (36 sts)

7. *2 dc in first stitch, dc in next 5 dc* repeat 5 times (42 sts)

8. *2 dc in first stitch, dc in next 6 dc* repeat 5 times (48 sts)

9. *2 dc in first stitch, dc in next 7 dc* repeat 5 times (54 sts)

10. *2 dc in first stitch, dc in next 8 dc* repeat 5 times (60 sts)

11 – 30. dc in every dc (60 sts)

31. DO NOT FINISH COLOUR A, leave thread attached. Change to Colour B, dc into the next 30 sts, turn

32 – 44. Dc into each dc (30 sts)

45. Fold rectangle in half and dc the back heel together. (8 sts)

46. Go back to Colour A, pick up 30 sts across top of heel and continue round sock (60 sts)

47 – 77. Dc into every dc. Finish above heel seam

78. Change back to Colour B. dc in each dc (60 sts)

79 -80. Change back into Colour A, dc in each dc. (60 sts).

81 -83. Change back into Colour B, dc in each dc. (60 sts).

Chain 20, dc 2 rows then slst into top of stocking (to form loop). Finish. Weave in ends.
