#MittenMission

Last year I contributed to Masato Beanies #Scarfathon. The appeal collected 500 hand-made scarfs for the homeless. The project continues this year and has a new addition #MittenMission.

Mittens are a great way to use up your stash (at least that’s my hope) and these are a nice portable project now my Solar System CAL is getting to big to carry around.

The Masato team and Granny’s Fireside have provided a couple of knitted mitten patterns here but I’m reproducing the simpliest one below with a little more detail for my own convenience/reference.

I’ve dropped to 7 mm needles making the knit it a little snugger and still working with 2 strands DK.

Dimensions of mitten – 15 cm (6 inches) wide by 21 cm (8 inches) long

Sew sides together along ribbed work, leaving stocking stitch section for thumb hole.

Next up to make a crocheted version

To get a stretchy rib I’ll be working in the back loop only and as I want it to go vertical and not horizontal I’ll need to work a foundation chain equal to the length of the mitten (21 cm) and then crochet enough rows to complete the width/diameter (15 cm).

You can then either cast off and sew the mitten together OR
