April 2021

Was the month of squares…

I started the month by completing the StitchSamplerScrapghanCAL from Hooked On Handmade Happiness

It’s wonky mainly because I was using up scrap yarn and the last few squares were a bit short. I’m not likely to repeat it however it was a useful project as I learnt a few new stitches and will be a good reference for tension squares.

Then on to the next one, I couldn’t wait to get started on this Snuggled Hearts Baby Blanket from Creative Crochet Workshop. I’d been tempted with a mystery bundle of yarn from Deramores in January and a large part of it was their Studio Anti-pilling DK in Butterscotch, Rosemary, Rosewood & Vanilla. It seemed like a perfect fit, and I think it succeeded.

A six week CAL which I completed in around 9 days! That’s how much I enjoyed it.

And then I decided I could do something similar for a large cushion that required a cover. It was a bigger project than I expected though as the cushion is 22 inches square I really should have appreciated I was practically making 2 more blankets

Side 1 uses 1 square and then repeating the border twice, and on the other side I have 4 smaller squares. Both are then edged with 3 rows of double crochet worked in the back loops only.

I was flagging a bit by the end of the cushion, it’s going to be a bit before I use this pattern again but I have to say there were some fantastic stitches in it. Maybe a smaller cushion next time.

And to finish off the squares theme I think I made my best Chocolate Brownies ever! I’ll get the recipe posted up soon
