December is Christmas Decorations month and I’ve introduced two new projects this year.
Firstly some ceramic hanging decorations, the snowflakes were so popular I had to do a return trip to Hobbycraft. Unfortunately they had sold out of the snowflakes but I was able to get some mini stars which were well received.
This time we used POSCA paint marker pens both in pastel and mono (which contain gold & silver) to decorate the ceramics. These were easy to use, giving a good result and were not as messy as using acrylic paint with brushes. I was able to source the pens during a sale in Hobbycraft earlier this year which means we have both a wider selection of colours and duplicates which reduced the risk of residents having to wait for the colour they wanted. The leftover pens can be finished off in March next year when we do another plant pot decorating project.
The second new project was fillable baubles, I proved a selection of fillers, silver or white “snowballs”, fake snow, silver, gold or red foil shred, plus ribbons left from previous projects. A little goes a long way with the fillers and the left over resources will be used next year.
These projects went down better than I had hoped for and I will have no hesitation in bring this back next year. I will get slightly larger baubles next time as then we can fit in figures and make sure I get a lot more ceramic shapes at the start.
Here are just some of the decorations made:
